“NCS are valuable business partners with ideals and values that align with ours”

Noel Foley - Executive General Manager - Lihir, LGL

Over the years I have lived and worked in a number of different mine operations and camp sites throughout the world and also within Papua New Guinea.

When I arrived on Lihir and experienced the standard and quality of professional catering by NCS – I was blown away! NCS produce incredible quality food and exceptional service – particularly for a remote place like Lihir!

NCS’ culture is the same as ours at LGL with values like high performance, accountability, sound governance and ownership at the core of their operations. The management team treat their staff with dignity and respect and they engage, communicate and relate well with their staff at all levels. NCS people are courteous and respectful and are a credit not only to NCS but also to LGL.

There is a great connection between our management teams and in our experience – nothing is too much trouble. NCS Management listen to our needs, organize their teams and manage our requirements with absolute professionalism.

NCS’s safety ideals align perfectly with ours.

Their recent achievement of 5.3 million man hours free of any lost time injury – or over 4 and half years during which not one of NCS staff missed a day of work due to injury – is remarkable – especially in this diverse industry with its unique risks and hazards.

NCS is LGL’s largest business partner and sets a standard that our other business partners should aspire to!

We have an exceptional team to work with in NCS management on Lihir. They support our business, run and manage our facilities and operate the camp in a professional, responsive way – and sometimes under difficult conditions.

NCS keeps our business going every day – which sometimes isn’t easy or straightforward with 3000 residents in camp supported by a 500 strong workforce.

The NCS management team are an integral part of our Management Team at LGL – nothing is ever too much trouble. They are good with their staff and workers throughout the operation. They are fair, trusting and work with a realistic approach to getting the job done.

Their staff are the backbone of their business.

The quality and standard of food is good and healthy for our staff and workers – and for a realistic price.

NCS are flexible, realistic, agile and responsive to change – that’s a MUST in the kind of environment that we work.

Commodore Peter Ilau – Commander of Papua New Guinea Defence Force

“We have a very special relationship with NCS because we have mutual understanding of the challenges that each of our organisations face. We have a great rapport!”

Often times, our requests are short notice – as it is the nature of our business. NCS understands this and EACH time their response is prompt and accommodating.

Our communication has to be open and we have to be very transparent about our expectations. Because of this very easy and open communication, our relationship is good and communication is the key.

NCS is a professional outfit. The finer attributes of the organisation – we realise!

They are based locally – and are experts in working locally – which is extremely important in the sensitive areas that we work.

Their choice of people is good – many have a background in Defence and understand the military culture which helps with being able to provide services according to our protocols, traditions and celebrations.

NCS delivers on their promises. In our business – we can’t afford to miss a meal – it’s too sensitive and too important.

Lieutenant Colonel Siale Francis Diro – Papua New Guinea Defence Force

“The service provided by your waitresses and the quality of the food and beverages was of the highest standard”

On behalf of the men and families of the 1st Battalion, Royal Pacific Islands Regiment, Taurama Barracks, I thank you for your splendid service during the Governor General of Australia’s Luncheon at Taurama Barracks Officer’s Mess on the 4th August 2008.

The decoration and set up of the dining room and the tables, the service provided by your waitresses and the quality of the food and beverages was of the highest standard, and certainly achieved the quality required of a State Function.

Your staff provided excellent liaison and support during the preparation and conduct of the Luncheon, and your efforts largely contributed to the outstanding success of the event.

“We are in a professional business relationship – it is not an us and them situation.”

We work in a very challenging environment. My job is to represent the Landowners and work with our business partners to provide services. I have to bring together the understanding of people and businesses – with very different ideas and expectations.

When NCS started working with NKW there initially were problems that took a good 3 months to sort out. In the beginning, NCS were given a pretty impossible task of providing 3 solid meals each day for a K10.00 manday rate.

NCS coped with it and delivered within their contract and delivered a bottom line and is delivering exactly what we are expecting in this area and without cutting corners. It’s about the delivery and they really go above and beyond in doing so.

The Hidden Valley project now is 7 times larger than the feasibility!

NCS are a good and very trustworthy organisation.  Their business processes are very professional and this has resulted in the development of a good relationship with the Client. You’ve got to be able to get on with the Client and deliver a service.

Being in PNG is about getting the job done. Going that extra step forward to gain accreditation, NCS is one of the leaders in this area and continue to focus on improvement.

Administering the Joint Venture is not hard work with NCS. They sort out any problems immediately.

NCS is proactive in training which the Landowners consider important – they are willing to invest in the development of the people.

What is impressive is that NCS has pursued and gained Accreditation.

NKW is a Landowner business located in the Hidden Valley area and were established to provide support services to the Hidden Valley Mine project which is itself a Joint Venture operation run by Morobe Mining Joint Venture. (Harmony and Newcrest)

NKW Holdings Limited businesses currently include transport and security, and Catering – for which they have been in joint venture partnership with NCS to provide Camp Management and Catering to Hidden Valley since March 2005.

“Great, consistent quality food – and plenty of it!”

I have worked up in PNG for over 10 years and have stayed in numerous camps run by a number of catering suppliers over this time.

When I stay in camps managed by NCS, I know to expect excellent quantity of food (higher than expected) and quite healthy – but not ridiculously so! It’s not gourmet food in camp – but it’s not expected – its appropriate food for feeding the masses – 70% who are men and working 12 hour shifts of hard labour in the mines.

As a visitor to NCS managed camps – I know that the quality of food is consistent and in great supply, their kitchens and mess are spotlessly clean, and their staff are clean, friendly and seem very happy.
