NCS Vehicle Safety

NCS vehicles are primarily for carrying out company business and are utilised within the relevant safety, traffic regulations and laws of Papua New Guinea and specific contract rules. Use of NCS vehicles for non-company purposes will only be granted within the strict guidelines of this policy.

NCS vehicles must only be driven by company employees and associated authorised personnel who:

  • Are currently directly employed by or contracted to NCS;
  • Possess a current PNG licence or equivalent of the class required to operate the vehicle;
  • Are authorised by their supervisor to drive.

NCS vehicles must not in any circumstance be used for any purpose which is; illegal, dangerous, in contravention of any statutory requirements, company or client policy and rules, picking up and dropping off of unauthorised personnel, the transportation of passengers in the open tray of vehicles.

Managers and authorised personnel are responsible for the vehicles assigned to their control and will ensure that company policy and rules are adhered to in relation to those vehicles. It is incumbent upon the driver of any NCS vehicle that before they operate the vehicle they check that it is registered, insured, safe to drive, has a current safety sticker and they follow the pre start checklist.

No person shall drive or operate any NCS vehicle whilst, smoking, talking on a mobile ‘phone, under the influence of alcohol (defined as being greater than 0.05 BAC), drugs or intoxicating substance, including betlenut, on or off NCS property. Record and report any accident or incident to appropriate NCS authorities including traffic incidents that are the responsibility of the driver. No person shall consume whilst a passenger or driving in a NCS vehicle any alcohol, drugs, intoxicating substance or betlenut.

Any breaches of the conditions stated above will lead to disciplinary action that may lead to dismissal or withdrawal of permission to access or drive a vehicle on NCS property or client’s lease.
